Ozimals | Pufflings Preview Meeting

Last week Ozimals held a community meeting to preview their newest SL breedable, Strangelings. Shortly after that meeting a notice was sent out to their groups thanking everyone for attending and announcing another meeting to preview yet another project. Today Second Life was introduced to Pufflings. Unlike the Strangelings there have been no teasers sent, no information released on this”other project” from Ozimals. Yesterday Candy Cerveau made mention in the Ozimals Orations and Updates group chat that the meeting was birthday themed with pastries involved (possibly) and earlier today in a meeting reminder notice this new projects name was released, Pufflings.

Ozimals Pufflings Preview Meeting

The meeting was held in a tent decorated with birthday presents, balloons and towers of creme puff pastries called croquembouche. Glinda and Ozma, who made a rare inworld appearance, had a short dialog as follows:

Glinda: Welcome, everyone, to the birthday celebration of her Majesty, Ozma, Empress of Oz.
Ozma: Hello, and thank you all so much for coming! The royal bakers have made Endless Cake, so there is plenty for everyone, even if you would like a second helping.
Glinda: Every year, Ozma’s birthday is a public holiday in Oz, and the people hold celebrations, but this is the first time the palace party has been a public one. Some of you may not know about some of the events at prior celebrations; Ozma’s friends always plan special surprises for her birthday, and because magic is common in Oz, these surprises are spectacular.
Ozma: Last year there was a PIE. A perfectly normal pie. But when I cut into it–carefully, I might add–there was a troupe of DANCING MONKEYS inside waiting to begin their routine. They danced up and down the table for the rest of the afternoon.
Glinda: Didn’t you like them?
Ozma: Oh, they were wonderful! I just never… thought… well, you know. I thought it was PIE. And though we built a wing onto the palace, with a monkey-sized theatre, sometimes I think we need something different… a cheerful palace pet, something which delights and enchants palace guests.
Glinda: That’s solved, this year: Endless Cake! The not-enough-pie part, I mean.
Ozma looks around the tent, at the gifts piled high and the towers of cream puffs. “I think we have enough cream puffs for everyone to have a HUNDRED.”
Glinda: Then if some of them were to stop being cream puffs…?
Ozma looks curiously at a cream puff. “Stop being cream puffs? What do you mean by that?”
Glinda smiles, and waves her wand. “Happy Birthday, Ozma!”

And with that the creme puffs turned into these round birds, Pufflings, and began hopping all over the floor of the tent.

Ozimals Pufflings

“So these are the Pufflings! Pufflings are, as you just heard, magical animals created by Glinda for Ozma’s birthday. They love living in the Palace at Emerald City, but they also want to visit other lands beyond Oz and meet new people like you. If you have had bunnies, the way the Pufflings work will be very familiar. But we’ve also added many new tweaks to the system based on what you’ve told us you’d like to see, as well as some natural, yet intuitive evolutions to the way Ozimals-style breeding works.

Pufflings will have more of their code based on a server rather than in-world. This will allow much more in-world processing power to be allocated towards interactive features for the birds. However, they will not stop functioning or disappear if the server goes down. Having this hybrid system will allow us to have less updates and more flexibility to add content and features quickly without disruption to you. The Pufflings have many different body aspects (such as tails and crests) that can be bred, along with color and feather patterns that will give an incredible variety of choices to your breeding. We will be talking more about the breeding of Pufflings in our meeting on the 11th.”

More images can be seen on my Ozimals Pufflings Flickr Set and also many others have been adding their own pictures to the Ozimals Flickr Pool.

Ozimals | Strangelings Preview Meeting

Yesterday I attended the Ozimals Strangelings preview meeting. Wow! Where do I start?

Strangelings Preview MeetingPrior to the meeting the Ozimals Orientation region was closed, so the Strangelings could be rezzed and positioned. Upon arrival in the regular meeting area it was evident that the Ozimals team had been busy. The entire meeting area had been transformed into a rocky swamp in theme with the 3 teasers which had been sent out previously (see teaser #1, teaser #2 and teaser #3). Displayed amongst the rocks were a sampling of beautifully textured Strangelings.

The first thing that caught my eye were the vibrant colors of the textures. Next I noticed all the variations of the Strangelings, at least those that were displayed. The base Strangeling will be very fox-like in appearance. However, through breeding, the Strangelings can have different attachments called Aspects. Some of those shown were Wings, Dorsal Spines, Horns, Unicorn Horn, Webbed Hind Legs, Hoofed Hind Legs, Scorpion Tail and a tail that to me looked like a Lion Tail. These definitely do not resemble any other breedable, current or past.

Ozimals Strangelings Preview

“With Strangelings, we really wanted to step outside the realm of realistic animals into a more fantastical place – the Aspects give breeders the ability to create pets right out of their own imaginations and we can’t wait to see what people come up with! Our development team did a fantastic job making a creature that looks very different from anything you’ve seen before, and we only displayed a few Aspects at the meeting. There’s so much more to show you, keep watching.”

If you were unable to attend the Ozimals Community Meeting Strangeling Preview you can read the meeting notes posted on the Ozimals Community Forums. There was a lot of information shared with more to come in future meetings. Speaking of future meetings, shortly after the Strangelings preview meeting was over the following notice was sent from Ozimals to their groups …

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the community meeting tonight! Apologies for the sim meltdown – we had to stop raising the limit at 70 but luckily we were able to split the group onto two sims to accomodate most of the people who wanted to attend. If you weren’t able to get to the meeting but still want to look at the Strangelings, we are leaving them out for the next 24 hours or so. Don’t forget, next week we reveal the other project we’ve been working on… Join us 6/27 at 6pm SLT for the details!

So stayed tuned into Ozimals as they reveal yet ANOTHER project next week!

Meeroos | Gone Missing?

I was called away suddenly to a family emergency this week and just returned today. The first thing I noticed was my Meeroos had gone missing. Their stump looked rather lonely without the little guys crowding around. I’ve really enjoyed beta with the Meeroos and was finding myself challenged in working out the fussiness of their breeding preferences, endeared by their affectionate nature and maddened by the questions of the Oracle.

Where Oh Where have my cute Meeroos gone?

There is a happy ending to the disappearing Meeroos of course, it means beta is over and the release is imminent. More imminent for those that pre-ordered of course. Pre-order will be released on Wednesday, May 18th beginning at 2pm SLT, the pre-ordered trunks will be delivered automatically so make sure you accept it and aren’t in busy mode. The delivery will happen any time after 2pm SLT that the delivery system finds you online, so there is no concern if you aren’t on at exactly the right time.

The open public launch will be on Saturday, May 21st at 2pm SLT and can be picked up at two locations:

Haute Couture

There are promising mentions of the elements of the storyline that will unfold during gameplay and there is also mention of “something has been discovered that we will be bestowing upon all of our Open Beta Testers who stuck with us until the end in the very near future, as our gift to you”. Hrm I wonder what that could be…….

The Time Has Come….

A Thank You and Kirsten Viewer Teaser

Getting an update on the newest changes on the tigers from Welcome to the Jungle seemed the perfect start to a wonderful early summer weekend, and I wasn’t disappointed when I found all the lovely tigers lounging about in the flowering jungle landscape.

Fred tiger from Welcome to the Jungle second life breedable
Forever running endangered destiny, I am Fred and it's a purfect day to meat you, rawr!

Speaking with Shantel, one of the Welcome to the Jungle creators, we were able to learn what new developments have been made and just how CLOSE the tigers are to reaching beta testing.

We’ve noticed there have been some changes to the tiger’s looks and animations–just what have you changed and why?

Shantel – We took a look at the tiger after the focus groups we had and we found that we could strive to higher standards. We completely redesigned the tigers to be a higher quality more realistic. We spent hours studying the way a tiger moves, and then we recoded the animations engine to be more life like.

How else are the tigers different than other breedables in second life?

Shantel – The story that our Tigers have over the other animals make them so much more interactive and interesting. They are true companions and will help in saving there kinder spirts in the wild. Two tigers meet and fall in love they will bond in a moment.

Can you feel the love tonight tigers from welcome to the jungle
Two tigers meet and fall in love they will bond in a moment.

Shantel – as Caretakers you get to watch the love story unfold. Our Tigers have personalities and as you can see by the first pictures these are just a few of the personalities were working in.

Meeroos | The Great Migration

There was a big shock in store for Meeroo Beta Testers today with an unexpected mass exodus of wandering Meeroos. I had just been tossing over doing a post on how big my sweet Meeroos were getting when I discovered an email about my Meeroo’s going for a wander. Well I know I hadn’t been spending as much time with them as I should, but surely they hadn’t lopped off in a tizz. I was having a serious case of the guilts till I arrived inworld.

Meeroos sure are getting big. Opps, too late.

I logged on to discover I wasn’t alone (phew) in being deserted and neither were they cruel enough to whisk our meeroos away without warning. Rather it was a mistaken early release which was due to take place on Monday (with warning). It seems now that it has taken place early a new beta trunk will be released on Monday with some rather large fixes for a second stage of beta. I was rather sad because I hadn’t had the chance to see mine breed yet, but breeding will happen earlier with the new release so it’s a safe bet I will during the next stage.

For more info see the blog:

So please take deep breaths and try not to panic or vent madly in group as you wait patiently till Monday.

Living Inc. | Dodo Beta Started

Well it’s all been happening while I’ve been away. Where to start but with Dodo’s. The dodo’s have started beta. There are various places you can pick up a beta package. You will need to be a member of the group and wearing the tag. Make sure you are ready to pick it up as you only have one chance to get a beta package.

After hatching my beta Dodo’s out I can tell you they are cute, great sculpts, have an efficient menu and I love the movement. They flit around and will come and bump into me. They can move quite fast and look very inquisitive and intelligent, clearly a more evolved version of the originals I’ve seen on Ice Age and such. ~winks~

Griderz Zwicky

A new discovery was made recently, a spacey fighting creature named Zwicky’s. We are still trying to find out more, but here is some of the information we have discovered so far. Griderz Luv presents a new all fun, no chore breedable which is currently in closed beta and soon to come into open beta, so keep an eye out for more info soon. Info notecard below:

Welcome to a new dimension in SL™ Breedable creatures!

Not from this world…
Not from this galaxy…
Not from this universe…
Not from this dimension!

<— Griderz™ Zwicky Creature —>

Zwicky creatures are named after the galaxy ‘I Zwicky 18’ a dwarf irregular galaxy located about 59 million light years away. This is where they were discovered during trans-dimensional propulsion experiments made by Alien Grey scientists.

Zwicky creatures first arrived on earth on July 8, 1947, found in the engine room of a crashed extraterrestrial spacecraft by government officials from Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) in Roswell, New Mexico, USA

They’ve been the study of United States scientists for the past 64 years and kept secret up until now. Human scientists have found that Alien Grey used Zwicky energy to supplement transdimensional propulsion output, thus the Zwicky discovered in the engine room were there for this reason. Zwicky aren’t harmed while being used for this purpose and actually enjoy the task and attention. Alien Grey supplied the Zwicky with plenty of their favorite food with the “Zwicky Orb” aka (Dark Matter Emitters) which process Plutonium (Pu 244) into dark matter.

Over the years Zwicky creatures have been found to be quite harmless and make great pets. They’re very playful, sociable, and love their owners!
Zwicky will gather among other Zwicky and create the (Zwicky Star) formation. It’s their way of bonding with the family. They also like to chatter with each other and people around them. They love to greet their owner with a “Whooo Hooooo!”…
Watch out for the Icky Zwicky Stink Ink! They think it’s funny to “Fart” and run!

Scientific findings:
Zwicky creatures exist slightly out of phase with our dimension. This allows them to pass effortlessly through all solid objects…

Zwicky creatures also have the ability to “Blink out” (Teleport) around their roaming area…

Since they originate outside our dimension they need to be fed dark matter to survive and the “Zwicky Orb” (Dark Matter Emitter) provides all their nutritional needs.

Zwicky creatures are ready to breed once they reach adult stage and become 100% horny (5-7 days). In Zwicky creatures, the males become pregnant. Their mating involves the female passing her unfertilized eggs to the male during mating. After completion the male gestates the young. In about 12 hours he will give birth to 1 baby! The baby will be born in stasis. A baby in stasis will never grow. The babies may be switched in and out of stasis before they reach approximately 4 hours of age. This will stop the growth process indefinitely. Once their age is over 4 hours they must be allowed to grow and cannot be put back into stasis! NOTE: The Zwicky birthing process is very hard on newborns and you may have a stillborn baby from time to time. Please be aware that not all births will be live ones!

Zwicky Starter Pack:

All starter packs come with four baby Zwicky creatures. These can be any of the five current breeds. You birth your babies by rezzing their saucers and touching them for the birthing menu. A blue dialog (Menu) will appear on touch and you will be given a choice of Birth Zwicky, Yes or No…
NOTE: Zwicky births are when all Zwicky babies are most vulnerable and should not be rushed. Carefully rezz each starter saucer and take your time birthing your new babies! If you try to rush the births, stillborns are more likely to happen! Region performance and lag can play a part in the death of your new babies! Once Zwicky are successfully birthed they’re very hardy creatures if kept well fed!
You may take them into your inventory to move them at any time without consequences. Just remember to feed any Zwicky that’s been released from stasis and do not leave them in your inventory for more than 7 days or they will die of starvation!

Meet your new babies!
The green, blue and red babies are your starter females.

The white/neutral baby is the male Zwicky! Zwicky males are rare. Make sure you take good care of him. You only get one in each starter pack! Males are the gender that gestates the young in the Zwicky species. They get pregnant and give birth to all your little Zwicky babies!

Current breeds available:
1. Galaxy Griderz (Rare Zwicky)
2. Nebula Griderz (Rare Zwicky)
3. Orion Griderz (Rare Zwicky)
4. Solar Griderz (Rare Zwicky)
5. Lunar Griderz (Common Zwicky)
6. Aurora Griderz (Common Zwicky)
7. Ejecta Riderz (Common Zwicky)
8. Flexus Riderz (Common Zwicky)

Zwicky creature lifespan:
Do to the fact that Zwicky creatures live in two separate dimensions they have a rather short lifespan. Maximum age is 180 days. NOTE: This age can be extended by purchasing a Zwicky Life Extension Orb. DANGER! Zwicky creatures must be kept fed or they will die of starvation! Once their hunger reaches 100% their ability to survive in our dimension becomes impossible and antimatter annihilates them in a devastating explosion.

Zwicky Orb:
This is their food processor which turns Plutonium (Pu 244) into dark matter.
Plutonium (Pu 244) refill vessels are available to replenish your depleted Zwicky Orbs.
All Plutonium containers will automatically refill any Zwicky Orbs region wide. You only need one refill per region. When that’s depleted it will delete itself and you will need to rezz a new vessel before your Zwicky Orb becomes empty. Currently there are three sizes available, small (200), medium (400), and large (800). These are for sale at our main store or at one of our affiliate vendor locations.

Mature Zwicky females have the ability fight in matches. This ability was introduced for entertainment purposes only and we do not condone the use of Zwicky creatures for gambling as per the Second Life™ TOS <http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Wagering_Games_FAQ & http://secondlife.com/corporate/tos.php>

Twibbles – The Story

The Twibbles are a newly discovered life-form, stumbled upon by explorer, Onyx Core. It is not known exactly where they originated from, but we have reason to believe that they are the last of their kind. Their language cannot be translated, nor their writings. The only way they can communicate with us is through art. Based on drawings created by the Twibbles, it seems as though that their home planet had been hit by a massive asteroid of some sort. After the planet was hit… only a hand full had survived. The planets atmosphere was quickly deteriorating. The only option was to evacuate the planet in one of their last remaining spacecraft. After leaving the planet, they proceeded to plot a course to the nearest habitable planet… ours. After setting the ships course, they put themselves into cryosleep and hoped for the best.

One day while exploring the edges of the nearby forest, Onyx Core came upon what appeared to be the wreckage of a spaceship. Carefully approaching the wreck, Onyx scanned the area for anything that might be threatening. There was no movement anywhere in sight, only the colorful smoke coming from the wreck. Onyx carefully inspected every inch of the wreck. He noticed a faint blue light coming from the inside of the ship. He decides to get a closer look.

Upon entering, Onyx finds a half dozen crates emitting the blue light. He picks up one of the crates and carries it outside. He wants to open it. But what if its something dangerous? Trekking through countless areas of dangerous terrain, coming face to face with some of the most ferocious animals this world has to offer. “Dangerous” is his middle name.

He carefully opens the crate so as not to terribly temper whatever may be inside. Laying inside is a creature unlike any other. It was the cutest thing he had ever seen. It was colorful with a striped and spotted like pattern. He was trying to keep quiet as it was still sleeping. Suddenly… it began to open its eyes.

When it woke to see Onyx… it didn’t move or make a sound. It just lie there staring at Onyx and studying him for awhile. Suddenly the creature slowly starts to smile. Onyx couldn’t help but smile back. He carefully picked it up from the crate and held the creature in his arms. He walked over and gently set it down on a nearby tree stump. Knowing the creature possibly wouldn’t understand, he held his hands up to signal the creature to stay put. He quickly rushed back to the ship to remove the other crates. Opening them carefully one by one he began to wake and greet the new creatures.

He began trying to communicate with them through hand gestures. He tried speaking to them. Nothing seemed to work. Then he remembered the paper and pencil he had packed in his bag. He pulled them out and proceeded to draw random shapes. The creatures began looking at each other as if this seems familiar to them. They began to approach Onyx. He handed over the pencil to the first one willing to take it. The creature began drawing. The illustrations seemed to form a story. A story of how they arrived here. Hours went by while they illustrated their journey. The sun was falling fast. Onyx stands up and looks at all of them, pondering what he might call his new discovery. “I’ll call you Twibbles!”, he said. As the sun starts to fall, Onyx races to get them back inside the cramped space of the ship. Before leaving he says, “You all stay in here and I’ll be back by morning.” Onyx gathers his things and quickly darts off into the dark.

Onyx returned the next morning and over the course of the next couple of weeks, he continues to return to build the Twibbles a proper home. He wants to help them start a new life here. He observes them, their lifestyle. He starts to see new babies pop up. They multiply much faster than he thought.

Months later… their population has grown tremendously. Through Onyx… they’d learned how to use the materials surrounding them, and he in turn has been able to study more about their technology. The relationship couldn’t be any better. But this small forest is running out of room.

The Twibbles need new homes for their rapidly growing population. Together we can help them.

New Horse on the Horizon watch out for ABC

I had a very interesting interview a couple of days ago with Darcul Bellic and Stephanie Merrienboer, who along with Kawika Comet form the Awesome Breed Creations management team. ABC will be bringing some healthy competition to the Horse market. Intending to embrace the good and trash the bad of all things breedable, their forthcoming horse will be both breedable and able to be used for special activities. These activities take the form of events which will suit the various breeds they will be bringing out. Just to give you a hint the first breed of horse will be best suited to their Draft Pull event.

ABC's Warehouse

There will be 7 different events all together, including sulky and thoroughbred racing. I love their method of introducing new traits into the bloodline and they are also going to require some patience to get the perfect horse, whether that be for racing or looks, but you are unlikely to have both. Hrm yes I do realise I’m not telling you much. Let’s wait till their is a demo inworld to look at in a couple of weeks and I might give away some more secrets then.

Oh here's a hint on the plan for dealing with horses you no longer want.

Welcome to the Jungle!

Donations go to WWF

Have you been waiting for the Big Cats to arrive? It seems they have. I found a Welcome to the Jungle display at Herdy’s Auction Barn and Breedables. By clicking on the Tiger you will receive information about joining their group, visiting the store, an application to become a beta tester or a slurl to visit the jungle. There is also a donation vendor with all monies going towards the World Wildlife Fund. I don’t have any other information at the moment but do suspect one of the team might be telling us a little more soon. I can tell you they do make cool Tiger noises though.
